Operations Building Slated for Replacement
After more than 50 years in service, the existing Urbana Park District Operations building in Crystal Lake Park has become obsolete. The building was constructed in the 1950’s when the park district had about 100 acres and one recreation facility to take care of. The district has grown by a factor of six and has added six additional recreation facilities since then.

Outdoor Pool Planning
Public Invited to Pool Design Firm Presentations
The public is invited to a formal presentation given by four firms interested in designing the concept plan for a new outdoor aquatic facility to replace Crystal Lake Pool. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18 at the Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W. Stoughton, Urbana.

The Urbana Park District is currently reviewing submittals and checking the references of the design teams. The top four candidates will be asked to give a formal presentation. Interested community members are invited to join the Park District at this public meeting and offer written input.
Information about the pool planning process can be found at www.urbanaparks.org/documents/index.html.

Crystal Lake Pool stakeholders have attended a series of open meetings that will be key to the preliminary planning process for an outdoor aquatic facility to replace Crystal Lake Pool.

Those who committed to the entire process are assisting the district in preparing the program statement for a new facility. A program statement is essential to preparing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) that can be given to potential pool design firms who will come up with a concept plan that can be taken to voters.
